There are many many projects underway to develop alternative sources of energy. We have no way of knowing which will pan out. That’s why it’s important for government to get out of the way and let the competition proceed.
Subsidies for particular technologies - corn ethanol, windmills, or what have you - make winners out of uneconomic losers. And waste taxpayers’ money. And feed corruption.
Oil at over $100 per barrel is plenty of incentive to spur energy innovation.
The time has come for Congress to do nothing.

August 25th, 2008I just realized that my comment spam filter has been overdoing the filtering. In addition to rejecting the ubiquitous ads for auto insurance and gambling, it has been rejecting legitimate comments.
